Where Did They Film the “Terrace Above the Sea” Scenes?
The terrace provides a sweeping view of the sea and some distant islands, making it an iconic location in Game of Thrones. Featured in seasons 3 and 4, the filming location for the terrace and the garden is the Trsteno Arboretum in Trsteno, Croatia.
About the Trsteno Arboretum
The Trsteno Arboretum, known as the oldest arboretum in this part of the world, dates back to the 15th century. The scenes filmed at this location showcased the serene terrace by the sea, offering a place for contemplative conversations between characters. The lush environment and the historic backdrop provided an idyllic setting for the dramatic narratives of the series.
The owners built a viaduct in the 15th century to supply fresh water to the Arboretum, connecting it to the fountain in the park’s center. Since 1948, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts has been taking care of the garden, preserving its historical beauty.
